Junior Challenge Ladder

The ALTA Junior Challenge Ladder is a special tennis program to promote singles competition for the serious junior player. To qualify for the ladder, a player must be between the ages of 10 and 18 and must have completed at least two USTA-sanctioned junior tournaments for ranked or unranked players. Many participants are ranked in the state as well as regionally and nationally. The ladder attracts the city's best players, and ALTA is very proud of its commitment to the program. ALTA’s Junior Challenge Ladder is one continuous, 14-week session starting in August and ending in December. (Please see the important dates below for more detail.)

Junior Challenge Ladder

Each ladder (one for boys and one for girls) is arranged according to ability, age and previous commitment to the ladder. There is room for 100 boys and 100 girls on each ladder. After placement on the ladder, a player should contact the JCL vice president with contact information. When the season begins, a player can contact their ladder manager to challenge a player above him/her to a match. Match play involves travel to another player's home court and therefore requires a commitment on the part of the parents as well. The ladder also hosts round robins for participants, which count as match play.

There is a $15 ladder fee, which is in addition to the $15 annual Junior Leagues ALTA membership. Ladder members are eligible to win T-shirts, sweatshirts, towels and a bag tag, as well as other prizes.

Players and parents are expected to understand the rules and procedures of the ALTA Junior Challenge Ladder. In order to participate, players and parents must review and sign the Player and Parent Agreement. The complete set of documents can be accessed by clicking on the ALTA Documents link at the bottom of the page.

ALTA Documents

Need ALTA information? You're in the right place for rules, handbooks, guides and season packets that will answer questions and provide necessary instructions for playing ALTA tennis. Document availability is role-based. If you are a captain or other team leader, you will have access to more information than a regular member to help you do your job. ALTA follows the USTA Rules of Tennis found in Friend at Court. You should also consult ALTA's rules for specific guidelines concerning league play and other ALTA-sponsored events. Those rules provide information on ALTA-specific regulations, such as default, forfeiture, retirement, scheduled match, sandbagging, inclement weather, rules specific to each league, Senior Leagues, Junior Leagues and Junior Challenge Ladder.
